Tax Relief for Oklahoma Storm Victims

From April 19th to April 20th, many areas in Oklahoma experienced some severe weather. This weather included some very strong storms, high winds and even tornadoes. Various areas that endured this weather in Oklahoma now have until August 31st to file a variety of different business and individual tax returns.

Overview

All areas in Oklahoma that have been designated as disaster areas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency(FEMA) will be entitled to receive this relief, according to the IRS. With that being said, all households or businesses in McClain and Pottawatomie County are eligible.

Deadlines Extended

The deadline of August 31st applies to any payment that should have been made at their original deadlines. This includes quarterly payroll and excise taxes that were originally due on May 1st and July 31st. Additionally, the penalties on payroll excise taxes that were originally due between April 19th- May 4th will be terminated as long as tax deposits are made before May 4th.

Wrap Up

When it comes to filing and payment relief, the IRS automatically identifies the taxpayers and businesses that are located in the FEMA designated areas. If taxpayers or businesses feel they are entitled to relief but live outside of these designated areas, the IRS Disaster Hotline can assist in providing relief.
