IRS Adds Weekend Hours to Taxpayers Assistance Centers

With filing day right around the corner, the IRS has decided to add weekend hours to many of their Taxpayer Assistance Centers. The hours will be from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturdays with no appointments necessary. This is a key piece of the IRS’s large-scale effort to offer more assistance this tax season.

Face to Face Assistance

Although tax return preparation is not being offered during these weekend hours, IRS employees will be able to meet with people face to face to answer field questions on-site. Taxpayers have the opportunity to ask questions about economic impact payments, audit problems, or any other tax problems they may be facing this year. If IRS employees are unsure of the answers to certain taxpayer questions, they will be able to refer them in the correct direction for assistance. Additionally, the IRS made it clear that questions regarding the reconciliation of Child Tax Credit Payments can also be answered according to the IRS.

“The IRS continues to do everything we can to help people during this unprecedented period,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “Opening these assistance centers for special Saturday hours is designed to provide yet another way for people to get the help they need. We encourage people to review the details on these special Saturday hours so we can help serve them. I’m also extremely grateful to our employees who have stepped up to provide this special assistance.”

  • Current government-issued photo identification;
  • Social Security cards and/or ITIN numbers for members of their household, including spouse and dependents (if applicable) ;
